Hibiscus sabdariffa is my favorite herb currently. I drink hibiscus tea 2-3 times a day. I started this as a natural way to help control my blood pressure. The more research I did on it, the more I realized hibiscus is the herb I have been looking for on my holistic health journey.
Hibiscus benefits when consumed internally:
Lowers blood pressure
Reduces heart rate
Lowers blood sugar levels
Lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides
Promotes liver health
Promotes teeth and bone health
Antibacterial
Anti-inflammatory
Strengthens the immune system
May promote weight loss
Hibiscus benefits topically:
Anti-aging - reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Exfoliating
Moisturizing
Anti-inflammatory
Stimulates collagen production
Hibiscus benefits for hair:
Promotes hair growth
Prevents premature graying
Reduce dandruff
Condition and detangle hair
If you incorporate one herb into your holistic healthcare regimen, hibiscus would be a great choice! It is the first herb I started using in my daily routine. Hibiscus has a wonderfully sweet and floral scent and makes a deep red tea. The taste is quite tart and fruity, you can feel its astringent properties when you drink it.
I make cold infusions daily, I fill a jar with a quart of water, add an ounce of hibiscus and a tablespoon of calendula, and close the jar. I let it infuse in my fridge for a minimum of 2 hours before I drink it, but I normally make it at night and leave it in the fridge. Hibiscus tea has a very strong flavor making it an ideal tea to add to. I add different powdered supplements to my hibiscus tea depending on my daily needs and it very rarely changes the flavor. I started adding calendula to my hibiscus tea as a way to calm down the tartness of the tea and it works wonderfully and add even more anti-inflammatory properties, supporting immune health, digestive health, and skin health.
