Stay Warm This Winter

Updated: Dec 19, 2024

I don't know about where you live, but this past week or so winter has officially hit in South Carolina. It took longer to get here this year, but the sub-freezing temperatures seem to be here to stay. I live in the south and I do not especially enjoy being cold, I was enjoying my mid-60-degree fall days. I have a few ways I like to keep my body warm in the winter and now I'm going to share them with you!

My very favorite way to warm up is with baths. Did you know you can add herbs to your bath water and reap the benefits that way? I bet you already have some of these warming herbs in your kitchen.

  • Ginger: Ginger in bath water can do more than just help warm you up; it also has anti-inflammatory properties. I don't know about you, but my body has many aches and pains in the winter and can benefit from a good ginger soak. Ginger increases circulation which brings about warmth to your extremities and promotes healing - especially for sore muscles.

  • Rosemary: This is another herb that is excellent for improving circulation to help warm up those cold hands and feet. As an added bonus rosemary is excellent for hair health - it even stimulates hair growth so go ahead and rinse your hair in this bath water as well.

  • Clove: A clove bath will help improve circulation, soothe sore joints and muscles, and leave your skin feeling cleaner and healthier with its antibacterial properties.

What's another great way to incorporate these and more warming herbs into your routine this winter? Herbal teas! I make drinking herbal teas part of my nightly routine. Drinking herbs such as ginger, rosemary, clove, cinnamon, and pepper can all have wonderfully warming effects on the body. I don't know about you, but for me, being cozy and warm is the best way to promote mental and physical relaxation at the end of a cold winter day.

I have made a tea that I enjoy on a cold night and I think you'll like it too. Personally, I enjoy this best steeped in warm apple cider, but orange juice can be good too! You can even try making your own Cup of Warmth mixture with warming herbs from your cabinet!
